Building the data foundation

The focus for May was data, in preparation for the beta launch. We narrowed the initial scope to United States companies so the product could be tested against a clean, well-defined universe.

Most of the work happened server side, bringing the data to a quality level that stands comparison with established providers across a wide set of companies. The goal was to make the pipeline fully automatic, so that filings move from source to terminal on their own, updating on a regular basis without manual handling.

The risk section was also reworked into a broader business section. Where the earlier version summarized the risks disclosed in a company’s filings, the new section describes the business itself: its model, its competitive advantages, and how it operates. Drawing on additional data sources, it now also covers management and revenue segments, which help build a fuller picture of a company. The result centralizes business and risk analysis in one place, which is closer to how investment research actually reads a company.

Further work is planned after the beta, including more industry-specific analysis.
